Dr. Steven J. Finnegan is an executive leader, researcher, speaker, and the founder of ACES Leadership, a leadership philosophy built on four essential principles: Accountability, Consistency, Execution, and Sustainability.
With extensive experience leading complex healthcare organizations, Dr. Finnegan has dedicated his career to understanding what makes leaders effective, how organizational cultures are shaped, and why the human side of leadership is just as important as strategy and operational performance.
Throughout his career, he has led organizational transformations, developed high-performing teams, navigated complex operational challenges, and helped organizations create cultures rooted in trust, accountability, and continuous improvement. These experiences reinforced a fundamental belief: Great leadership is not defined by authority, but by the ability to positively influence others.
Where Experience Meets Research
Dr. Finnegan earned his Doctorate in Executive Leadership, focusing his doctoral research on the relationship between emotional intelligence and hubristic leadership. His dissertation, Impact of Emotional Intelligence on Reducing the Risk of Hubristic Leadership in Healthcare, explored how emotional intelligence can help organizations recognize leadership behaviors that may undermine trust, collaboration, and organizational effectiveness. His research reinforced a critical distinction: confidence is necessary for effective leadership, but confidence without self-awareness, humility, and accountability can become a liability. By combining academic research with practical executive experience, Dr. Finnegan brings a unique perspective to leadership development, one that challenges traditional assumptions about what makes someone a successful leader.
